ST CATHERINE OF SIENA ORPHANAGE---WHAT A SHELTER CAN OFFER...

Having proper care in a homely environment can create healthy personal space for children to grow. There is nothing better than a homely environment below a roof since this roof is protection and homely environment is the space to grow.  Homeless children on the street often are deprived of their personal places leaving them to live in the open spaces.  While malnutrition, sickness and death await children, they beg on the street for their survival and to support their parents who often turn out to be addicts.  Rehabilitating children from the street and orphans are taken care in the orphanage sections at St Catherine of Siena. While proper medical support and monitoring, help the children to get well through the medical programs, life skills sessions provide relearning for children as per the social standards in hygiene, behaviour and communication in the initial years at St Catherine. Concepts related to these life skills are introduced, re-introduced, practiced ...

When The Words Are Not Enough Through the years, such psychotherapeutic and art-based techniques as music, painting, drama and dance have arisen as alternatives to facilitate healing centred counseling.  These psychotherapeutic techniques have been the most versatile and diverse in its application since it can be used with small children who are unable to express feelings verbally, with adolescents who have buried their most painful memories and with the young adults who may be too lonely, depressed or confused to talk about their traumatic experiences.  These multi faceted and inherent art forms have many features promoting a body-mind-spirit connection, not only for therapy but also in daily living. Active and creative facilitation of these art forms improves physical fitness, mental balance & self-confidence, refines the energy levels, bringing-in the wellness in daily life and its practice.  A practicing art based teacher or therapist in Dance, ...

NEW SHOOTS FROM OLD ROOTS...Project Age 22

Image
When intellectualism and charity combine, often do appear a new thought of life as the new shoots of fresh leaves appear on the same tree with an old root.  Father of our Nation, Mahatmaji, could see the great changes as an intellectual Father Anthony Elenjimittam-our founder,  could achieve during the freedom movement.  In 1946 when having a morning stroll Mahatmaji said to Father Anthony: 'do not restrict yourself to pure intellectualism through writing and lecturing.  Combine it with charity and work for the upliftment of the Harijans. Whatever work you do for their all sided growth and uplift, whether it is in slums or villages, will have my blessings and encouragement'.  The Project Age 22 encourages the students to follow Mahatmajis words to Father Anthony. To mould responsible youth in this modern age where space journeys are becoming child's play, it is our challenge to translate the advice of Mahatmaji to Father Anthony who encourages everyon...

EDUCATION..BRINGING MORE SHINE TO LIFE..

Image
From the year 2003 & 2015 onwards M/s. Sunshinekids intl and M/s. Hamburg Sud India Pvt Ltd started supporting the school funding. This support is very crucial since the school does not get government or religious funding for the beneficiaries in the school ie  orphans, street children and children from the nearby slums. It is often observed that the children who seek admission in our School have missed 1) early childhood education 2) stimulation and responsive care of both Father and/or Mother 3) Learning material at home 4) Playing material at home 5) adequate supervision to name a few. EDUCATION..BRINGING MORE SHINE TO LIFE…. Background Children who live on the street and in slums are deprived and have no safe access to school system making them vulnerable to substandard living. They fall victim to the survival street system and fruits of education are beyond their reach. When survival is the key word, activities related to it become ...
